16 years ago master black & white photographer Jonathan Chritchley formed Ocean Capture, running 3 and 5 days black & white workshops from his hometown in the South of France. In those days, the start of the digital revolution, so many clients came to learn how to achieve beautiful monochrome prints using their digital cameras; the process, the workflow, and of course the making of the photograph, using the histogram to control tones, studying composition and technique, all these subjects were covered in detail, both on location and from the comfort of a desk using Lightroom and Photoshop.
Ocean Capture has since developed into rather a big concern, but many of our very faithful clientele started working with Jonathan back then, and many have asked if we would ever consider running this style of 'hands on' workshop again.
And the answer is yes! By popular demand, this is the first of the new Black & White Photography workshops, The Monochrome Project, based on the stunningly beautiful French Riviera, in a lovely hotel close to the sea, and working with Jonathan on location and in front of the computer to create not only some beautiful photographs, but also the knowledge to go forward once the workshop is over. There will be two shoots a day, and classroom style sessions and slideshows, discussing high key and low key, high contrast, Japanese influences and work from some of the greatest photographers in history, along with demos and critiques, and of course fun conversations, and good company!
A first class photography retreat, in a stunning part of the world!
