Ocean Capture are very pleased to announce this unique photography workshop with one of the masters of fine art photography.

‘My workshops are meant to provide all photographers the opportunity to figure out what they want to say with their camera rather than just how to use their camera. I find that difference can be very important to establishing an identity for the work and the photographer.’ MICHAEL LEVIN

Hosted by Jonathan Chritchley on the Gironde Estuary close to Bordeaux in France, this full weekend programme is a unique opportunity to work closely with the award-winning photographer. Michael will discuss the skills and steps to achieving exceptional images and then how to have them published, exhibited and sold.

Limited to only 12 participants to allow for the most personal interaction and discussion, Michael’s workshops are intended for photographers already familiar with the techniques of long-exposure photography but keen to take their work to the next level. Participants gain personal behind-the-scene information on how Michael Levin found, composed and captured some of his most popular images, including a rare look at several of his original negatives. Michael will go into detail about the processes used to create the final images.

The programme also includes a field shoot to the fabulous stilt fishing huts that line the estuary for a practical discussion of what makes for a great photograph and critical advice on what to include or avoid when composing an image. Michael will work with each participant personally as they proceed through the shoot. The atmosphere for these sessions is friendly and supportive but the goal is to motivate participants to achieve a high standard for their work.

The workshops are also unique in providing valuable information on the business side of fine art photography. The challenge of getting your photographs published, exhibited and sold is discussed in detail as Michael talks of his successful experiences approaching art galleries, juried competitions, magazine editors and book publishers. Michael Levin works solely as a fine art photographer and has extensive gallery representation, numerous international awards and his photographs have been featured in many publications. The workshops provide an intimate opportunity to question and understand what it takes to be a successful artist.

NB: The first 4 images used on this page are works by Michael Levin, and their purpose is to showcase his work. None of them are meant to represent the locations used in this workshop. The 5th image, of the stilt fishing hut, is by Jonathan Chritchley and indeed represents the type of location used in this workshop.
